An open invitation to Scott Hooks

Scott Hook of Lotus 911 posted a response on his blog since I had disabled comments on my post.  This is an open response to him in an attempt to clear the air.

Scott,

I shut off comments on my post because the sniping back and forth seemed to have become unproductive.  If you would like to comment on that blog post (so that your response will be found along with the others), or if you would like it to have more prominence, perhaps as an "official response" at the bottom of my blog post so that those finding the post will see your perspective as well, simply let me know.  I would have responded to your blog post with the offer, but in an ironic twist, it seems to be closed to comments.  (Update: it seems you have to log in, so it is not closed for comments, but as I can't manage to log in...)

I absolutely understand and respect that your company would not want an overly negative post to be a top hit for searches on your name without any chance to provide a rebuttal, so please feel free to compose a response and let me know how you would like it added to the post (as a comment or at the end of the main post).

As an aside, I tend to agree with most of your "greater good" results list, but I should correct the impression that IQJam uses one of Genii Software's products.  It does not, and even IdeaJam, which does use CoexEdit as an optional add-on, is not a significant revenue source for us.  I was simply trying to make clear that there is some small business relationship between Elguji and Genii, even if it is minor and not a factor in my decision to post what I did.

Regards,

Ben Langhinrichs
Genii Software

Update: Scott declined my offer with a very courteous and professional note, suggesting that at this point the best thing for all was simply to move on.  I quite agree.

You need to log in to the BleedYellow community to post a comment (just use the login link at the top right of the page)...

Stuart - Ah, now I get it. Thank you. Most sites that require a log in to comment make it clear closer to the "Add comment" and I wasn't aware. I'll go give that a try.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get my login to work, so I am left to hope Scott sees this note or responds to my email.

I agree, the bleedyellow.com site needs to make it clearer that you need to login to leave comments. Or better yet, why not allow comments without logging in.

As for everything else, I hope that we all can move on from this. There just seems like there was more to this than everyone knew about (either happening through IM, FB, twitter, etc.) that the rest of us in the yellowverse just had no idea was going on. To me, it just appeared that the timing of Tim's stuff was coincidental and so then to see all of your negative comments about Tim really just surprised me and I felt were unwarranted.

@Jack - I agree that it was probably a mistake to post as I did. Through a combination of factors, it felt warranted at the time, but attracted a good deal more attention than I expected, and came off as more specifically targeted at Tim than I meant. I'm not going to re-open that debate, but right now just feel a degree of responsibility to Lotus 911 to allow them some chance to leave a public rebuttal or response in case that post does turn into a top search hit for a while. Other than that, I'm done with the topic.

@Jack - as has been noted many times, BleedYellow Blogs are Lotus Connections-based. It's an IBM requirement for authentication for commenting and we've asked them many times since 12/2007 to allow unauthenticated comments as an option in Connections. We would LOVE for visitors to be able to comment without logging in.

@Ben - let me know if you still need your password reset at BleedYellow.

@Chris - Yes, a password reset would be great. A couple of people have mentioned that Connections is designed more with an Intranet in mind, which may explain some of what seems odd about it to me. I appreciate your help.

Let it go Ben, let it go...
