I wanted to show a quick demo of how powerful CoexEdit 2.5 and the xPages discussion database can be, out of the box with no designer access even needed.
I started by creating a brand new Lotus Notes/Domino 8.5.2 discussion database, using the standard 8.5.2 template. I called the database Discuss3.nsf, and located it on a Domino 8.5.2 server. The server has CoexEdit 2.5 on it already, and I added two lines to the NOTES.INI. There are now three lines in the NOTES.INI having to do with CoexEdit:
extmgr_addins=CoexEd
CXEProperties=LinkPath=LSess11.nsf LinkView=LUWiki LinkURLDirectory=//www.luckyduck.com/
CoexEditRecognizeDiscussion=1
The LinkPath parameter says that cross-reference links should come from a different database, this year's Sessions database.
The LinkView parameter tells CoexEdit which view to use to look up names.
The LinkURLDirectory tells how CoexEdit should generate the URL.
Click on the demo below to see how this works. The demo is a bit rough, as I wanted to get it out,, but I will polish it later. There is also no audio at the moment (my microphone broke), but I think you'll see how it works pretty easily. As a small note, notice that when you click a link in the Notes client, it opens the document in Notes, but when you click on the web, it opens on the web.
Let me know what you think, and whether the demo is clear. Obviously, you get all the other fun features of CoexEdit, such as tabbed tables and high fidelity rendering, but I wanted to show how CoexEdit will work with an xPage discussion with no design changes, and how you can even create cross reference links that make sense in your environment.
Updated with a few call outs.
