Create your own cinemagraphs with Gimp 2.8

My second, but likely not last, on editing animated GIFs with Gimp 2.8 (first is here) covers the intriguing art of cinemagraphs. Cinemagraphs are still photos with some movement, such as this excellent example by Ana Paid:

I decided to make a short tutorial on a way to make these cinemagraphs from animated GIFs. If people are interested, I will make more which cover some trickier situations.This uses Gimp 2.8, a free open source alternative to Photoshop that I like very much. More specific details, a couple more of my examples and a transcript are available at http://mini-lessons.info/Gimp19 with all my other tutorials and demos on Gimp and other topics.
