Civility in critiquing the ideas of others is no vice. Rudeness in defending your own ideas is no virtue.

Sometimes, criticism is a good thing.  When a commentator like Andy Rooney on the CBS news show "60 Minutes" gets a letter describing him as:
asinine, bottom-dwelling, numb-skulled, low-life, slimy, sickening, gutless, spineless, ignorant, pot-licking, cowardly pathetic little weasel

you have to figure that's a good thing.  Clearly he is touching a chord.  While it might not be fun to receive such a diatribe, it would at least be better than some of the bland pablum which comes out of corporate offices these days.

For that reason, I would like to propose a toast for Ed Brill, whose recent spate of posts (such as this and this and this) have taken an edgier tone than some corporations would allow, even in an "unofficial" weblog.  I am sure some of the terms above have been applied to you this week, Ed.  Cheers!
